Wood Sorrel

Wood Sorrel

Wood Sorrel (Oxalis acetosella) on Mt Moosilauke. The dry brown stems at left are Indian Pipe. The leaves are edible and taste a little bit like lemon when chewed (the initial impression is just grassy/leafy) - you can even make a "lemonade" from them. I believe the plant is a source of vitamin C. The flavor comes in part from oxalic acid, which could potentially be harmful in very large quantities, but the same can be said for parsley. 3 August 2007
