Ymir Mountain

Ymir Mountain

Ymir Mountain is the prominent 7,867’ peak over Whitewater Ski Resort near Nelson, British Columbia, Canada. In Norse mythology, Ymir was the founder of the race of frost giants. And there’ve been a few winter days on the slopes of this heavily fractured, igneous rock when I felt the frost giants were with us. Caught this image of sunset on Ymir Mountain from our basecamp a few years ago. Ymir basin or bowl offers great off-piste ski route but it can be prone to avalanche – BIG avalanche. Some of the ski patrol at Whitewater know this area real well and can be a good source of info on local conditions.
