Awesome hike- parked at Snowbird center, up Gad Valley to Gad 2 to Red Top, to the Twins, then along the ridge back to HDP and down Peruvian Gulch. Beautiful weather, awesome hike. Would have continued to Baldy, but we went down to hit up Oktoberfest.
I hiked over AF Twins on a ridge hike from Sugarloaf going to White Baldy in 2004.
Climbed via the north ridge both times. Cheated and came down the tram the first time. Second ascent was part of the Bullion divide with the WMC
Parked at 7900' up the MIneral Basin road, where it got so rough, I didn't wanna take my truck any further. Did American Fork East, West and South, and Haystack. Descended the northeast face of American Fork East down into Mineral Basin. Was snow covered and my top speed was 25.6 mph according to my GPS. Was quite a rush. Total round trip was 9.96 miles and I completed it in 4 hours 3 mins.
Took the tram up and did part of the Bullion Divide ridge traverse and hikes down white pine. Turned out to be 10 miles. The climb over to red baldly was interesting.
Rode the tram up to Hidden Peak, went across the knife edge, then kept going after the twin peaks. Down via White Pine Lake, and back up to the lodge by hitchhiking.
Climbed via Gad Valley trail to Red Top Ridge, then continued on to Hidden, Mount Baldy, and Sugarloaf peaks. Descended via Peruvian Gulch trail. Observed mountain goats, moose and pikas.
06/21/2012 Run up Gad Valley from Snowbird, also the Bastard
07/29/2009 from Albion Basin, night hike
09/14/2007 from Albion Basin, hit both peaks
08/05/2006 traverse from Devil's Castle, Sugarloaf, Baldy, and continued the Bullion Divide to White Baldy.
Nice to do this one. A beautiful day but rain to the west made me go ahead and visit all three quickly and then go back down. Saw moose and deer, too.
Came up from the Alta parking lot and Hidden Peak, then over to Red Top and White Pine TH. Thumbed a ride back up the road to my car.
Skied off Mario's then to Bookends
I really enjoyed this hike. I made the hike quite easy by riding the tram to Hidden Peak, but I had a ton of fun on the ridge. I did this one by myself. I met SP member, climbingchic, near the summit. It was a beautiful day and I had a blast.
A dozen or so times, usually in passing to other peaks.
Left trail in White Pine Canyon and headed up northwest ridge of Red Top Mountain then easy traverse to the Twins. The views from AF Twin Peaks and Red Top are some of the finest in the Wasatch. A very enjoyable and worthwhile hike.
Riding the tram up 3000 feet was like being in the Alps climbing. Pics and map at http://www.willhiteweb.com/utah_climbing/little_cottonwood_canyon/american_fork_twin_peaks_216.htm
8/16/2008 - Climbed as part of Bullion Divide with Jareds and friends.
July 9, 2016 - David Jones and I went up via Gad Valley, over the peaks, then down to hidden peak and snuck on the tram!
July 18, 2008 Solo Traverse I went up via Gad Valley, and first summited red top mountain, then over to the west twin, and on to the east twin. Continued the traverse by decending via the northeast ridge. The climb took 3 hours up and 1.5 hours down.
Wanted to do the Pipeline Couloir but was redirected by Snowbird ski patrol at about 9am. Kind of a bummer but we traversed East towards the backcountry gate and climbed the full East Ridge instead. Still a beautiful morning from the top of the Central Wasatch!
I loved the knife edge and would like to try it in the winter.
Climbed as part of the Bullion Traverse. Started at White Pine TH. Up white pine to White Baldy, Red Baldy, Red Top Mtn, American Fork East, West, and South Peak, Hidden Peak, Mt. Baldy, Sugarloaf, then down to Alta.
