An important cairn, showing where to leave the Marzellferner and get onto the Marzellkamm
If, for example, you wanted to climb the Hintere Schwärze from the north, only a few years ago it would have been normal to follow the Marzellferner all the way from the snout up. However, as the glacier melted and conditions have changed, so has the normal route. These days a new route is constructed on the Marzellkamm, the ridge to the west of the glacier. This cairn is a the southern end, and shows where to get on or off the glacier.
