Backcountry skied up and down this peak one winter, ferocious winds at the top but the views were outstanding.

Labor Day hike
On the way I crossed over Mt. Hight. It was very windy there. Carter Dome was nice and relaxed compared to that. I took the 19 mile brook trail to the Carter Dome trail.

Carter Notch Overnight Loop
Climbed up to the Carter Notch Hut in 55 degree weather and drizzle on the 28th. Stayed the night there, although we were vastly over prepared after being used to the Randolph Mountain Club's shelters which offer very few amenities. Climbed up from the notch to Carter Dome and across to Mt. Hight. Broke trail from Carter to Hight which was slow progress. 2+ hours to go one mile. Great views if not a little windy and cold on the second day. Back down via Zeta pass to 19 mile brook.

Carter Dome
Climbed with Hight via the Nineteen Mile Brook Trail from Pinkham Notch. A steep and relentless hike up from Carter Notch. Only limited views from the summit even on this perfect day. There is a nice lookout point a little ways down the trail to Hight that provides an excellent view of Washington and the ravines. But the best views were to come.
We went in spring and snowshoed over from Mt Hight. There were some nice open snowfields on the way up Carter Dome. it was a good trip.

First Peak on a Long Day
Nineteen Mile Brook Trail > Carter-Moriah Trail > Carter Dome Trail
Great trail conditions with relatively little mud until the north side of Carter Dome. Then we hit a couple hundred yards of deep snow. No snoeshows needed, but will prove interesting when it softens.

Steep sections
We took the Nineteen Mile trail. My buddy did not bring much water because he didn't want to carry it up the steep sections and was usre we'd find some in a stream further up. It was steep and we were sweating like pigs. Very hot and humid (which is why I seldom hike in the summer). I filled up 2 bottles at the swimming hole. By late afternoon we were out of water. It was very hot and dry, and the streams were dry. We spent the night at the Imp shelter, with no water, so it was not as pleasant as it could have been. The top of Carter Dome is fairly flat so we played "baseball" by hitting rocks off the top with an old tree branch. And of course, Frisbee golf. At some point in this trip we ended up on the Rattle River trail. The lean-to on that trail was in a beautiful spot, near a nice stream, where we found a natural bowl that was almost like a swimming pool. Of course, your lips would turn blue in about 2 minutes 'cuz the water was so cold. We only saw one other person in 3 days. All in all, a nice summer hike. Many thanks to the guy who picked us up hitch-hiking and brought us back to the car.

Joined natreb on a hike up the Carters. Had had to cut out early after summiting Carter Dome via Ninemile brook and Mt. Height and come down the Carter Dome trail due to bad leg cramps and time constraints. Hope to do North Carter and Middle Carter very soon.
I climbed it solo in high winds and snowstorm. The trail up from Carter Notch Hut was almost undoable with the drifts and the steep inclines. I finally made it to the summit but it took about (2) hours of busting trail thru new snows.

Incredible. Signficant ice on 19mile brook trail made me very glad of crampons. Expected temperatures around zero have turned out a bit warmer than that. Not much wind either. Fog has lifted and the views are incredible. Down to Zeta Pass and back to the car now.
