Re: fantastic mountainsI couldn't agree more! At 6108m, the western summit (the left one of the two high peaks) is not the highest one in the area, but that shape, and then those impossibly steep flutings; I couln't keep my eyes off of it!

Re: Wow!Yes, I know! I wasn't planning of climbing it myself either, but I thought that it would make a great picture if there was someone on it ;-)

Re: Wow!You do realize that about as many people have died on it as have summitted! Fantastic shot!

Re: Wow!I knew it's extremely difficult to climb as well as very dangerous, but had no idea it was that bad. I just figured that the danger would be so obvious that of the few that would actually go there, intending to attempt to climb it, most would be sensible enough to turn back before even starting. I mean, conditions have to be perfect in the first place, and even then, you still don't know how long that stuff above you will stick to the mountain ...

Re: Wow!I might have exaggerated it a bit. It is rarely climbed - I doubt anyone here on SP has climbed it. And there do seem to be a fair number of deaths on it - a couple in 2011, I believe.

Makes me nervousLooking at the ridge....

Re: Makes me nervousYou mean the one on Chacraraju, right? I mean, the ridge in the foreground isn't very difficult.
As for Chacraraju, I would be very surprised if anyone has ever even tried to do a full traverse of the summit ridge. Both summits are climbed occasionally, and the normal routes, if you can call it that for something like this, are extremely difficult. There are routes that lead straight to the west or east summit, others go up the face and end by following part of the ridge to one of the summits. So, if anybody wants to set a new standard, traversing that ridge would be a great project for it!
By the way, when I googled Chracraraju, I came across this exciting and well written trip report. Now that makes me nervous too!

Re: wowI belatedly realized that you might be referring to the small dark shape a bit further down on the ridge. That's not a dog though; it's a backpack. It really is too steep for a dog. We gained this ridge by climbing up the steep slope directly to the left of the backpack.
