Aaaaaaaaaah !Great photo, Melinda! If you click onto
"zoom mode" you can make out four vehicles
and a motorcycle on the road below. Look
at that alcove - I've never noticed it.
A person needs to spend at least a week
in Zion NP to appreciate its beauty!

Re: Aaaaaaaaaah !Thanks. You have a good eye. I knew that there were a few vehicles on the road but it looks like you found them all. It’s a great view from the top and you can look down to the parking lot and see all of the tourists taking photos of Checkerboard Mesa.

Mountaingazelle ?The man who pointed out (the) Ant Hill and Three Marys is putting out a guidebook. I've always thought highly of Checkerboard Mesa. (I have never climbed highly on Checkerboard Mesa!) What's your stategy? Do you depend on guidebooks, or carry a compass with you or GPS unit? Did you do a fair amount of 'bush-whacking' on Checkerboard Mesa? Or, did you just follow a way-trail? The VIEWS you got are really pretty and astonishingly incredible! Thank you! - Larry
P.S. - I wonder if (the) Ant Hill is a difficult one to climb??? Guess I just have to wait for the book. Heard you got more snow??? Take care. :)

Re: Mountaingazelle ?Thanks. I used a topo map on Checkerboard Mesa. My route went up the canyon located to the east. This goes up a steep tree filled gully toward the east col. You have to walk through brush and trees here and on top of the plateau. I hiked to the highpoint and the north end of the plateau which overlooks the road. This is where the best view is at.
You don't have to wait for guidebooks, just go explore these places. Information on Ant Hill can be found if you do enough searching. Yes, we received more snow. It has been a good winter.

Re: Mountaingazelle ?Thanks. I know that the rising price of gasoline will cause me to do much more research, and far less fooling around. Larry
