Corvara and Sassongher

Corvara and Sassongher

Sassongher towering over the village of Corvara as a mighty 'Götterhron' (Throne-of-the-Gods) (This is a wide-angle photo!)

Re: Nice

Thanks for the comment. There is a ferrata up from the left which is not too hard, and of course a choice of harder routes, like up the south face seen here.

Re: cycling

Actually we have seen it with quite a bit of snow one day in July 2004, when it snowed down to 1700 m/5700 ft.

Ciao

I climbed it last year... nice point of view toward the Fanes group!
Even if the original "throne of God" in Dolomiti is the mount Pelmo.... ;)

Re: Ciao

Yes, the view in good weather is very impressive all around from the top. As for 'Götterthtron' I got that from a guidebook (said about Sassongher). Pelmo is much higher and more impressive in a way, but there is no village where you can see it that close.

Re: Good photo

Thank you. It is the closeness to the town that makes it so impressive. If you stood in Zermatt and made a similar wide-angle photo of the much taller Matterhorn, it would appear as just a remote pinnacle.

Re: Nice composition!!!

Thank you, Kenzo. It is a photo I have been wanting to take for years, but it needed just the right weather and time of day.

Great Composition

Lovely way you have shown the mountain in the context of it's immediate surroundings Ejnar. Imagine waking up every morning and looking out of your window at that!

Re: Great Composition

Thank you for the kind comment. Yes Sassongher can be seen from nearly everywhere in Corvara, and is one of our favourite Dolomite mountains.
