Cyclamen fatrense

Carpathian endemic and priority species of European importance - has optimal habitat for growth in mixed and deciduous woodland on calcareous subsoil. It can be found within the area of about 50 sq km limited by the villages of Staré Hory-Motyčky-Turecká-Liptovské Revúce. Especially strategic pass named Velký Šturec presents center of gravity. Flowering season is from June to October. This vulnerable species protected by law is about 15 cm tall. It catches the eye with remarkable pink-purple flowers and rounded cordate leaves. Its scent is shrill and due to existence of toxic substance it used to be applied in traditional complementary and integrative medicine.
