Hiked above and below. To be honest, I was more impressed by Rainbow Falls...
Such an interest place to see. Too bad there is not a way to see it all from a fair distance. Seeing it so close, section by section, limits its perceived grandeur.
Easy trail. We took our then 1-year old girl all the way there in a stroller.
What I'd really like to do go is on on and explore the Ansel Adams wilderness...Some day when we have more time and the kids are not too young.
Sorry, I wasn't terribly impressed.
very cool place. been here many times...
One fine day, in about 1976, and again a couple of times since. The magic of nature. Who'da thunk rock could be shaped like this?!
We went to Mammoth Lakes area to mountain bike. The next day we took the shuttle bus to Reds Meadow and hiked to Devils Postpile and then on to Rainbow Falls. The hike to Devils Postpile is short from the bus stop. There is a trail to the top where one can look down onto the trail and the forest. It is a short hike and also it's a loop. The trail continues on to Rainbow Falls and goes through the forest although there had been a fire 10 years earlier so no shade.
Been a few times to this wonderful place. On a family trip to Rainbow Falls also.
My grandpa took me when I was just a youngin'. I blame him for my wanderlust.
On a 5-day vacation in Mammoth. Visited the postpile and rainbow falls. Gorgeous area. Will be back to explore more of the Middle Fork San Joaquin River.
wonderful hiking/backpacking opportunities back in this area
Nice hike with the family. Tons of people. Hiked down to Rainbow Falls after. Nice day. I think I want to move to Mammoth!
Did this with my wife, 8 year old twins (one with mild cerebral palsy) and 21 month old. Continued to Rainbow Falls. Not much shade on that leg of trip. Outstanding hike, though popular.
Been many times but it gets crowded!
Took the JMT through the Mammouth area. Went to Devils Postpile, and Red's Meadow.
We started at Edison Lake and ended up at the Rainbow Falls trailhead next to the devils post-pile. Great trip!
What a sight, a geology class was there studying the site, and they had great insight on how it was formed.Cool spot, and hiked down to Rainbow falls as well.
Took the JMT through the Mammouth area. Went to Devils Postpile, Rainbow falls, and Red's Meadow. We did this as a unplanned side trip after a few days up Convict Canyon.
Wasn't enthused enough to visit on my JMT hike but visited it upon my return afterward with family.
I visited this during a JMT thruhike. The exhaustion of a long day dampened my enthusiasm but it is really an interesting lump of rock.
