Dixie Butte Benchmark (OR)

Dixie Butte Benchmark (OR)

The Benchmark for Dixie Butte is found on a peaklet just to the south of the Lookout. From the lookout, the peaklet looks slightly lower but from the peaklet, the spot where the lookout is located looks lower. To consider getting Dixie Butte all proper like, visit the peaklet and locate this Benchmark. No register was found although the lookouts had a register which we were invited to sign. 9-24-04

Nitpicking

That's a triangulation station, not a bench mark.

Because of the procedures used in pre-GPS surveying, triangulation stations are only accurate for horizontal position. Benchmarks are accurate for vertical position.

Re: Nitpicking

I see the words Triangulation station on the marker. I always thought they were benchmarks.
Thanks Gary, that is worth knowing.
