Female capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus)

A characteristic large species of grouse for the Carpathians and a very good bioindicator. The only Romanian population seems to be stable. Observed between Pecealu and Bucovinca summits.

Very nice.

Capercaillie is for me a very beautiful bird. I saw this bird many times. But now there are very few.

You are right, but on my last October trek along Marmarosh border line - I observed at least ten male capercailie and countless of black grouse. So you can imagine, how favourable habitat the UA/RO border is for this peaceful species.

Oh you misunderstood me. It was during six-day trek and each day I saw two - the border line is 70 km long and I was so tired.....
