Le massif du Grand Rosskopf / The massive of the Grand Rosskopf
Le massif du Grand Rosskopf est situé dans le département de la Moselle (57), entre les vallées de la Zorn à l'Ouest et de la Mossig à l'Est. Son point culminant atteint quelque 811 mètres, près du rocher panoramique du Rosskopf. Le Grand Rosskopf est coincé entre deux cols forestiers, à savoir celui de la Schleif au Nord et celui de la Wetzlach au Sud. Il fait partie intégrante de la vaste forêt domaniale de Dabo. Sur son versant oriental, le plus abrupt, se trouve une ancienne tourbière d'origine glaciaire : le Grafenweiher (563 m). Le panorama le plus remarquable et le plus connu de ce massif, est celui que l'on peut contempler depuis le rocher du Backofenfels (740 m), avec un face-à-face somptueux, sur le légendaire Rocher de Dabo (664 m). Une autre formation rocheuse très pittoresque et ressemblant à un homme de pierre, est à voir dans ce massif : il s'agit du Steinerne Maennel (770 m). Au Sud-Ouest du massif du Grand Rosskopf, enfin, le randonneur pourra se rendre sur une crête sauvage et isolée, appelée Spitzberg (759 m) : de là-haut, la vue sur la forêt de Dabo sera tout simplement, inoubliable !
The massive of the Grand Rosskopf is located in the department of the Moselle (57), between the two valleys of the Zorn at the West and the Mossig at the East. The maximal altitude is reaching 811 meters, near the small panoramic rock of the Rosskopf. The Grand Rosskopf is exactly located between two forestian collars, the Schleif at the North and the Wetzlach at the South. He's a child of the big public forest of Dabo. On the eastern slopes which are the steepest, you will find an old icy peat bog : the Grafenweiher (563 m). The most remarkable panorama and the better known too, is the one that you can have from the rock of the Backofenfels (740 m), with a magnificient face-to-face, on the legendar rock of Dabo (664 m). Another rocky formation which is very picturesque is waiting of your visit, she seems to be like a rocky man : it's the Steinerne Maennel (770 m). At the South-West of the Grand Rosskopf, finally, the hiker has the possibility to discover a very wild and isolated crest, named as Spitzberg (759 m) : from here over, the panorama in the forest of Dabo will simply be, unforgettable !
