First peak of the season via Church Fork with Ammon Hatch.
Went up the Church Fork trail with Kadee.
After a week without snow, the trail was nicely packed to the saddle and loosely packed to the summit. Having gotten the route down after failing to summit a few days ago, and with the trail conditions in my favor, I made it to the top -- my highest solo summit and highest winter summit.
The day was hazy and overcast, but visibility in the canyon and on the hike up was great. At the top, things opened up: The clouds still hung like a ceiling, very close (the top was in light clouds), but I could see across the valley to the Oquirrhs and a good distance north and south as well.
I had the trail to myself most of the way up, and bumped into a few friendly folks on the way down. Lots of dogs. I was probably overdressed in microspikes and gaiters, but I'd rather be slightly over-prepared than under-prepared.
All in all, a fantastic hike. I've got the bug for sure, now! I'd love to come back on a clear day, too.
Started at 10 am. Real easy stroll with Maren to the summit. A bunch of kids were at the top making hilarious comments. The mud became a bit tricky on the way down but we managed. A little less than 4 hours round-trip.
I finally counted it up and so far I have climbed this peak 102 times since my first ascent on April 25, 2006. Great Workout Mtn-West Face. November 13, 2013 #103. Very little wind. I went trail traipsing up West Ridge after work, ate some fruit snacks under the afternoon sun, and chit-chatted with some ultrarunners at the summit. Everyone and their dogs (literally) seemed to have come up Church Fork, so I had the trail alllllll to myself. Most excellent!
Climbed early in the morning and had the summit to myself. Great view of the city and Olympus
Fun hike in the afternoon. Only my second peak in this very slow year. Great view from the top though.
Hiked up the west ridge. saw some deer. it was grandeur.

Have hiked this five or six times, always up from Mill Creek Canyon. Notes: (1) The top portion from the saddle is deceptively long. (2) The west-facing trail, which I've only downclimbed once, is really tough in its intense decrease in elevation over relatively short distance. I would *not* want to be on that upclimb on any kind of hot day.
#1 18Aug2011 Have hiked several times from Church Fork TH. First time however from the west. One steep sun-of-a-gun hike.
#2 & #3 March2012 Hiked twice within a weeks time.
#4 16May2013 2hrs50mins up
First Peak to reach since my prostatectomy & lymphadenectomy last year at this time and my retirement in Oct.
The hillsides were ablaze with arrowleaf balsamroot and a mountain bluebird greated me at the top.
The weather was perfect with a cooling breeze near the top and a westerly refreshing me on the way down
#5 06June2013 I spent some time taking pictures and had some difficulties getting energy so it took me 3hr 38min to the top. The flowers on the arrowleaf balsamroot were pretty well spent but the mule's ear took over duty to light up the mountain sides. The sego lily was in its resplendent glory as usual.
02/01/12 via West Ridge
Had a great hike with Kadee, Greg, and their pup. The peak was covered in clouds, so no great views, and it was quite icy in spots, but I was glad to try a new hike.
latest of several. trail so heavily trod that used MicroSpikes. see my photo in Feb 2011 Rambler (Wasatch Mt Club)
Great early season hike. Beautiful view of valley below.
