Nice hike

Up here for work, not play... so no summit, but a great hike with nice views of the valley below. a fun hike at night.

Good intro for new climbers  Sucess!

Nice simple summer summit hike, but a bit crowded! Nice blueberries if you head up in the late season.

Avalanche Gully  Sucess!

Perfect day to climb Granite Mtn. Avalanche conditions were great, so we were able to go straight up the gully. Descended due south off-trail to make things interesting.

After the summit I continued on down to the Tuscohatchie Lakes to Pratt Lake and the loop. A real bushwack.

West Ridge  Sucess!

December 11, 2003: Solo climb, foggy day so the views were pretty limited, but still a good workout and a fun climb.

December 2004: Climbed with dad, started way to late, so we didn't go all the way to the top. Beautiful day though.

February 12, 2006: Spectacular day, although very busy on the mountain. Icy on the way up, slushy on the way down. No avalanch danger so we had an awsome glissade down the avalanch gully. Climbed with fellow SP'ers Supermarmot and Littlefrantz.

June 2006: First time without snow! Surprisingly nice hike, it felt very alpine'ish and remote after you get around the backside on the last portion of the trail.

January 31, 2007: Went up Pratt Mountain first, then did the West Granite to Granite traverse on the way back to the car. Long day with lots of up and down. still a great time though.

Route Climbed: Avalanche Gulley Date Climbed: December 10,2005  Sucess!

A beautiful day for summiting this mountain. There were large talus fields about halfway up the ridge to the West of the avalanche gulley. The summit was clear and wind was not an issue. I camped on the summit and the wind stayed calm until about 06:45 when it picked up significantly. All in all, a great trip.

Continuously steep grade till the lower meadows, the last push to the summit is also a steep hiking grade. Views are awesome however. Will take west granite arm next time.

I went with my friend, Alainna. We ate huckleberries on the way up and I got a super, bloody blister on the way down (needed new socks). There was actually someone stationed at the fire lookout. She was a 19 year old staying up there by herself... BRAVE. She says that you can write the forest service and volunteer for specific lookouts. I never knew that... The trip was almost spoiled by the crowd, including a woman who wouldn't shut up about politics. And although I agreed with her views, her non-stop preaching (to EVERY SINGLE PERSON who reached the lookout!) made me want to strangle her!

A bit of snow on the top as expected this time of year. We took a wrong turn and ended up scrambling up the boulder ridge to the top. It was more fun doing a scramble anyway. Good views, nice gain.

Short little climb on a fine Saturday. Views a little spoiled until right at the top by the massive highway below. Once over the ridge, a very fine parorama to the North.

Route Climbed: Traverse from West Granite Peak to Granite Peak Date Climbed: November 20, 2004  Sucess!

The standard route to the summit is pretty dull and VERY crowded. We made this one a bit more interesting but doing a traverse from West Granite Peak to Granite Peak in early winter. Gaining the ridge onto West Granite is a bit of a challenge with a little bushwhacking but once on the ridge, the route is easily visible. We hit it a bit too early in the winter season when there wasn't quite enough snow which made the climb to the top of West Granite a bit trick -- walking up a big talus slope with only 6-8 inches of snow on top of the rocks. Once on top of that, the remainder of the route was pretty straight forward.

We had a nice day to hike. There was snow starting at about 3000 ft, but it never got deep enough to snowshoe. The shoots were all clear of snow so there was no avlanche danger.

Dipped off the ridge to traverse the north bowl. Lots of slushy snow but good weather.
