Magical place, so historic!I was there in September of 1982 and loved the area it wasn't too crowded either. Did you climb the ridge?

Re: Magical place, so historic!What a coincidence. That's the exact month I was born. I wanted to climb the ridge but I didn't have time on this trip. I suspect that I will visit this area several more times in the future.

500 dead,that's quite a number. I guess most were on the Hörnli Ridge?

Re: 500 dead,I know that the 500 figure covers all the different routes, so I can't say with certainty, but it seems likely that most fatalities would have happened on the most popular route.

Re: 500 dead,Good evening Ejnar, how are you? Hope very well! Another popular route getting to the summit of Matterhorn-Cervino on the italian side is the Leone Ridge, only a bit more difficult than the Hornli one. Unfortunately a high number of accidents is also occurred on that route, i think...

Yes I know about the Lion ridge, as the say in French and English, but I thought it was rather more difficult than the Hörnli route. I can imagine quite a number of accidents happening there.
