Humphreys  Sucess!

JP and I had to add this to our list of highpoints. Relatively easy hike under near perfect conditions.

Snow Bowl Route  Sucess!

Great hike up in the early morning. The sky OPENED UP on us on the way down. Hail, Rail, Thunder, and Lightning. Great fun.

HIGH Winds

May 1994. Made it to the ridge and 12089 but were thwarted by the blasting winds that were nearly blowing us up the mountain simply by the sail effect on my tied down cowboy hat. Later we learned of the high wind advisory for the day. Both of us later regretted not pressing on. Very icy trail that day tired us out too.

From Snowbowl  Sucess!

After being sent to Phoenix for work on Saturday, got up at 4AM Sunday for the drive from PHX (111F, Sat afternoon) to Flagstaff (57F, Sun morning). Was worried about thunder, but still couldn't manage to start earlier than 7:30AM. Forgetting my sunscreen and having to run back to the car did not help. This is a great trail, and the mixed forest reminded me of hiking in the Adirondacks.

Summited at 9:50AM, just as the clouds started to build. The forest service recommends 3 hours for this? Four hours is more reasonable for someone in average shape. I second the comment about the flies (marred my pictures too).

Either the natives know much more about Northern Arizona thunder than me, or they are going for Darwin awards. Passed no less than 30 people going up into the building cloud. I made it back to the car (after stopping to do a few flips in the field), very slightly wet, 2 minutes before the first lightning bolt.

HP #29  Sucess!

Hiked with Paul. Still sore from Mt. Whitney, we still made it up. Stupid false summits tricked us though! Windy at the top, but we had the summit to ourselves. Could see the north rim of the Grand Canyon. Nice!

4ht-5th time  Sucess!

Once again...a fantastic day hike. The last ten feet of the summitt were HORRIBLE as there was somekind of insect swarm. Could NOT even breath. Of my 4/5 times on this climb, the ONLY time I've ever experienced this...weird.
Make sure to research and visit the bomber crash on your way down...very worthwhile.

Inner Basin Route  Sucess!

I hiked Humphreys via the inner basin trail from locket meadow this is the route to take it is a little longer than snow bowl but much more scenic. It was a great day for a hike. The bugs are heavy in late June.

Standard Trail

Did this one with the TalusMonkey, Tanya, Caroline and Fred Moore. Wonderful November weather and one of the best views I've ever seen: beats a lot of 14ers for sure.

HP #3 Humphrey's Peak Trail  Sucess!

Started at 6am and met with thunder and lightning once I was off of the ridgeline coming down the mountain. Made me a little nervous at times.

June 27th, 2007

Climbed again with friends from work. Much better weather this time around. Great views again. Just happened to top out on Arizona's highpoint on my 2 year anniversary with summitpost.

HP #37  Sucess!

What a trip that was...!!
With my longtime friend Eric...
We flew to Phoenix, rented a car, drove to Flagstaff;
The gate was clodes at the TH because they had received new snow... We camped at the base... woke up the next morning and went for it from the bottom near the road...
It was crazy... we got to the top at 16:03... just three minutes shy of our turn around time...
We almost got caught in an avalanche high up near Agassiz...

Solo trip  Sucess!

A trip I made a long time ago. Was living in Tempe at the time. Drove up, camped solo, had coyote problems. Summitted the next day - no issues. Nice day.

Winter Solo  Sucess!

Awesome peak. I did this peak on my way from Albuquerque to LA. Took half a day. Not bad. I had to pry the summit register out of the ice. I was the first to sign in a while.

Group hike  Sucess!

A group of three of us headed over from ABQ and camped near the trailhead before our hike the next day. The trail was crowded and there was quite a cross-section of America represented on the mountain. The summit had a huge amount of swarming bugs so we spent very little time there before heading down.

Agassiz to Humphreys traverse  Sucess!

left early and climbed straight up the ski lift to the Agassiz summit. Early 2005 had LOTS of snow (maybe 300% normal), so this felt like a true winter hike.
Traversed over to Humphreys and descended straight down the skiers right side of the snowbowl.
