Nice hike - great views  Sucess!

Best views of my three weeks in Ecuador. I counted thirteen volcanoes around me. Wladimir drove me from his hostal Llovizna - I recommend to stay there - to the trailhead La Virgin. Started hiking at 6am. No snow, some wind at the summit with the cross.

great hike  Sucess!

great day, nice weather, pretty fast summit (Boriss predicted around 1 PM, and I was already in Quito taking a shower at that time). Hiked up/scrambled with Segundo (friend of Boriss = High Andean).

Higest yet, more to come  Sucess!

8 hours round trip from the parking lot. Lots of wind and no views due to clouds. Fun scrambling. The ´5.3´is high 4th class at best and can be soloed by anyone with technical climbing background and comfort with exposure.

Route Climbed: Normal Route.  Sucess!

Climbed with K'Ashem members from Guatemala (Deysi, Valesca, Alejandro and Ariel). Got to the top after 5 hours of leaving from the trailhead at La Virgen parking lot.

Extremelly windy at the top (5,126 m / 16,818 ft). It was hard to keep ourselves straight.

Got back to the parking lot by the north face in just one hour (6 hours RT from the parking lot).

Route Climbed: Normal Route.  Sucess!

Probably my last climb of Illiniza Norte of the year. I climbed from La Virgen parking lot with 6 Austrians. Very fast team, we left the trailhead at 5:45 am and got to the summit (5,126 m / 16,818 ft) at 9:45 am, 4 hours!

It snowed all the way up to the summit. I found I huge boulder that felt 3 days before the climb, injuring a guide and his client.

We headed back to the parking lot by the north face. (7 hours RT).

Route Climbed: Normal Route.  Sucess!

Climbed with Coral (USA). Our hike started from La Virgen parking lot at 5:45 am. It rainned during the whole approaching to the refuge.

We started climbing from the refuge at 9:15 am. This time, it snowed during the approaching to the summit. A team from the Mountaineering Club of Caracas (Venezuela) almost kill us. They tried to climb straight up to the summit and threw three big rocks to the climbers below. Luckly nobody got hurt.

Got to the summit (5,126 m / 16,818 ft) after 1 and a half hours of leaving the refuge. A pretty fast climb.. I enjoyed it!

The mountain changed completely in minutes. Thick snow flakes covered Illiniza Norte and the trail.

The Venezuelan Team got lost on their way down from the summit. They got to the refuge just before sunset.

A great climb prior to our Illiniza Sur climb, the next day.

Route Climbed: Normal Route.  Sucess!

Climbed with 5 germans, Bladimir and Jaime from Ecuador. Got to the summit (5,126 m / 16,818 ft) after 5 and a half hours of hiking and climbing.

Great weather. Didn't find any snow in the mountain. Illiniza Sur is loosing its glacier pretty fast. I studied the route up carefully from Illiniza Norte's top. I'm thinking to climb Sur as soon as I have an off day.

My highest peak so far...  Sucess!

Stayed at the Llovizna Lodge in El Chaupi and got a ride to the La Virgen trailhead. It was a very memorable climb. I was so happy to be on top of a mountain in Ecuador!

Route Climbed: Southestern ridge  Sucess!

Climbed with Ben, Dan, Steve and Duncan (ENG). We started at 4:30 am from La Virgen Parking Lot.

Ben waited for us at the refuge while the rest of us pushed for the summit. A long day for me at work!.. it took us 9 hours to summit and to get back to the truck.

Windy and cloudy, but we were lucky to see the surroundings from the summit (5,126 m/16,818 ft), including Chimborazo to the south. The weather got better on the way down and the following days.

A little sketchier than stuff! We climbed Illiniza Sur earlier that morning and it was pretty darn cool to get such a great look at the route we took up the mountain.

Horrible weather and a stomach flu combined to stop us from climbing Iliniza Norte during our time in El Chaupi. Made it to the ridge while looking for the refuge, but could not find it in the whiteout. Stomach flu stopped attempt 2 days later. Brutal weather in the Iliniza area for the week we were around Quilotoa Loop and El Chaupi. Will have to come back one day...

Two-fer on the Ilinizas  Sucess!

Climbed Iliniza SUR, then NORTE (Normal Route) on the same day. NORTE is supposed to be snow free but there was a lot of fresh snow that day. We followed tracks to the summit, got to the top at around 2:00pm and down the same way. Snow got considerably softer on the way down that late in the day.

Great!  Sucess!

It was great to get this summit, perhaps the hike was hard for me. You can see the joy I felt in the shots of this album.
