Looks like a cool area with a free standing tower. Glad to see you made it. Maybe it was warmer than the 2004 trip. Still 5100 feet should make it fairly cool this time of year.
Thank you for the correction, Desainme. (And for the vote.)
Nice. I like seeing obolisks like this represented.
Yes, and it photographs well from any angle. Thanks for the vote.
Good page...and a good "launching pad" for members who have climbed this to describe some routes.
Thank you... and I hope you will describe some routes.
Great page! How does Independence Monument compare to Lizard Head Peak?
I have never climbed Lizard Head, but I have climbed "Indy" and have spoken with other climbers who have experience on Lizard Head. "Indy" has good footing solid protection and could quite possibly be one of the easiest monoliths to ascend. You can thank John Otto for the easy ascent (it should be noted that more difficult routes are available on Independence, including some aid routes).
However, I have heard that Lizard Head is more challenging by virtue of its loose rock.
Thanks for expanding on the variety of the Colorado SP pages. I haven't been out to the monument country yet but your photos deffinately whet my appatite. Nice Page.
Thanks for your comments, once again.
A GREAT addition to SP! I hope as well that some tech climbers will add some routes! Thanks!
Very nice, Larry.
Nice work. Welcome to SP.
I appreciate your vote of confidence. Concerning SP, I only wonder why it took me so long to discover it.
Now that's a rock spire! Nice job Larry. Going forward, please let me know in the "What's New Colorado" thread when you submit a mountain, route or TR. I got to this one a little late.
Nice page Larry (thought I had voted on this when I submitted the route page?).
