Passing through on the way to Grassy Ridge Bald.
Fortunately our northbound AT travel through the Roans was blessed by crystal clear skies!
At least, they looked exactly like blueberries. Saw a couple gathering them just off the trail not far from the summit, which I passed through (like most folks here) on the way to Grassy Ridge Bald.
Passed through to Grassy Ridge Bald. Nice little hike from Carvers Gap
Crossed on my way back & forth to & from Grassy Ridge Bald.
Crossed on section hike of Roan Highlands
when we did the 6,000 footers in the Roans
I decided to make a stop in the Roan Highlands on my way to the Smoky Mountains. It was a relatively hot day, and views were limited by haze, but it was still gorgeous up there. I decided to take a little walk, and the next thing I knew, I was at top of Round Bald and on my way to Jane Bald.
Passed over on the way from Carver's Gap to Big Yellow Mountain and back.
Climbed with Eleutheros.
Easy trail along a beautiful ridge.
Interesting to see a fence containing sheep on the top. These sheep are expected to eat the grass on the balds in order to ensure the balds stay, well, bald. Currently the balds are starting to be overrun by woody plants such as a berry tree.
Clear chilly autum day...beautiful day in the mountains. Just day-hiked part of the AT (about 11 mile 'loop').
Beautiful day for hiking. Clear skies with great views. The temperatures were fair and there was little ice on the trail.
While making our way to the summit of Grassy Ridge Bald, we passed over Jane Bald. It was a very cold and windy day in January. Nice hike.
Passed Jane Bald on way to and from Grassy Ridge Bald. A nice little peak along a gorgeous stretch of open ridgeline.
The clouds rolled in and out. I passed this peak on the way to Elk Park from Carver's Gap.
