5th time on the summit, first round trip of the Keyhole route. Matt and I took a quick midweek jaunt up and down, 5:25 RT. The route is completely snow free, though there is a little water on the Homestretch and in the Trough from snow melt/rain fall.
26 years after listening to my brother tell me about his climb up Long's I finally made it to the summit. My attempt in 2005 ended at the Keyhole due to bad weather. For this attempt in 2006 the weather was perfect. Hoping for success again this August.
Woke up shortly after 3am and started the approach from the parking lot. Pretty easy going, up until the keyhole. Got to the summit at around 10am, saw some clouds, but didn't look like anything was going to happen. Boy, was I wrong. It started pouring shortly after I passed the keyhole on the way back. Very scary lighting strikes all around.
Solo climb of the Keyhole. The route is still "technical" and ice axe and crampons were definitely needed. Descended to Clark's Arrow and traversed to Meeker then down the Iron Gates. Had Longs all to myself this day!
Great summit from any route. Might have done this mountain about 20 times and from all sides.
forgot to sign in from last summer. Climbed too slowly and spent the night on a ledge. Beautiful weather.
This mountain lives up to its reputation. I can't wait to try the North Face and Kieners...
I got seriously pumped up for this one, hit great weather, and summited via the Trough-Narrows-Homestretch in 6 hours from Glacier Gorge solo.
Attempted the summit in winter conditions with my friend Rudy but did not quite reach the top.
We ascended the FLYING DUTCHMAN successfully (50 ft of WI2-3 that we protected with 3 screws) and made it within less than 500ft from the summit...Late hour, slow progress due to fresh snow coverage, and very windy weather conditions made us turn around.....so close! But there is always next time, right?
1st 14'er...learned I'd better train harder for the longer routes!
Hiked the Keyhole Route from Longs Peak Trailhead. Although I grew up in Illinois, my family would visit RMNP almost every summer. I had been looking forward to this one for a long time, and it completely lived up to my expectations. Perhaps my favorite peak.
My favorites have been the Casual Route, Alexander’s Chimney and the Notch Couloir.
This was my third time summiting Longs. We reserved a site at the Boulder Field.
This was my first climb of Longs. I did it car to car via the Keyhole route. I arrived at the parking lot around midnight. Another climber said a ranger had just been by and hassled him for sleeping in his vehicle. So without any sleep I headed up the trail around 1:00am. I summited not long after dawn. I got back to my car around 10:30am.
Best climb on earth. Casual Route and Kieners both rock
Best climb on earth
Tried the day before but were stopped at the keyhole due to weather, next day had beautiful weather and a amazing summit
I camped in the boulder field and took the Keyhole route to the summit. I'm an early riser, and managed to have the entire summit to myself for a half hour on an August weekend. Not bad. I descended via the old cables route and only passed two climbers on the way down. Again, not bad. There were tons of climbers on the main trail, so I felt fortunate to have such an incredible mountain to myself in such incredibly good conditions.
First 14er, nice route.
Climbed The Notch, Was a fun ice climb and decended under a full moon hardly had to use a head lamp
