In America, "racing stripes" are the parallel lines painted on race cars. They are in the direction of the car's motion (front to back), and contrast with the overall color of the car - white racing stripes on a dark blue car, for example.

They also look molto cool when the car is traveling VERY FAST.

Thanks Paulo for your comment: these are some typical stratos we can see somewhere in the Appennino Parmense.
I love a lot these mountains because very close to home.
