Medicine Bow Peak  Sucess!

Short and scenic. I was solo. There were 3 huge bull moose near the trail head that I watched for a bit. This would be a good peak to have the whole family summit.

Loop from Lewis Lake  Sucess!

Four adults and two dogs enjoyed this amazing loop from Lewis Lake. This is one of the most beautiful places within 5 hours of our driveway. Loved it!

Lewis Lake Trail  Sucess!

Great bang for your buck scenery on a fun little family hike. After fishing, paddling, and walking around the various nearby lakes during previous days, we took the main route to the top with the in-laws. Despite being steep, the trail was well-marked, with a short little snow traverse and boulder hop up near the summit.

Bats were swooping down as I hit the peak  Sucess!

After two previous attempts, I made it for the first time on one perfectly still night at the end of August. I rounded the final stretch to the peak with bats swooping down all around me in the dark. Threw on a raincoat and kept going until finding the golden seal ;)

Medicine Bow  Sucess!

Medicine Bow is a beautiful mountain. I did the loop starting from Lake Marie and couldn't have asked for better weather.

Lazy day climb  Sucess!

Walked up and down the same trail from our site in the Sugarloaf Campground. Was going to do a little meandering on the return but weather looked threatening. Gorgeous day and scenery!

Snowy Range Trio  Sucess!

With Rachael, climbed up one of the Gap Ridges (the one from the promontory point at the North Gap Lake) after Browns and added Sugarloaf after. Great views off all the beautiful lakes!

Fantastic snow for crampons  Sucess!

Fantastic snow for crampons + an easy grade made this a ton of fun.

winter ascent  Sucess!

Fantastic conditions. Maybe 20-30 mph wind at the top at max. Went around the north side of Sugarloaf and ascended near the trail area. Didn't bother with crampons. Ice axe was essential for the moderate snow we encountered.

From Lake Marie  Sucess!

Started around 2:30PM. Followed the standard route to summit. Up to a foot of snow deep in some spots with low visibility. The large cairns along the route were very useful. Clouds cleared on descent making for a beautiful evening climb. Back at TH around 6:15PM.

Nice ridgeline  Sucess!

Only seventy three minutes for the 1.6 mile trail to the summit. After that I went and scrambled up Sugarloaf. Four hour total day, including time spent on the summits.

Thunder Snow!  Sucess!

With a half inch of snow on the ground and low clouds, I had opted for Sugarloaf. But as I descended that mountain I saw that clouds were lifting a bit on the higher peaks, and I made a snap decision for Medicine Bow. The top was socked in and as I rested, heavy snow, accompanied by thunder, broke out. I left the summit with alacrity but thankfully no electricity.

More times than I can count  Sucess!

The first time was shortly after I moved to Laramie, Wyoming in the summer of 1991. I must have climbed this peak dozens of time during my stay there. Beautiful mountain.

Med Bow in the winter  Sucess!

Surprisingly mellower-than expected outing, weather was not ideal, but nice hike nonetheless, even with the constant snow mobile noise. Bagged Sugarloaf as well.
