Joseph Ratzinger con un avvenimento che nella storia della Chiesa Cattolica, non avveniva da un Millennio, ovvero che un papa proclamasse beato il proprio immediato predecessore. Il 27 Aprile 2014 è stato proclamato Santo da Papa Francesco insieme a Giovanni Roncalli o Giovanni XXIII°. Inoltre Józef Wojtyła risulta quale primo papa non italiano dopo 455 anni, cioè dai tempi di Adriano VI° (* 1459 + 1523, Papa 1522/23), ed è stato anche il primo pontefice polacco nella storia nonché il primo proveniente da paese di lingua slava. Il suo pontificato è durato 26 anni, 5 mesi e 17 giorni ed è stato il terzo pontificato più lungo della storia (dopo quello di Pio IX° e quello tradizionalmente attribuito a Pietro Apostolo). Ma soprattutto, per quelli d'Arvier e più in sù, un Papa amante la loro valle e la sua gente e sulle tracce del quale s'é mosso anche il tedesco Ratzinger continuando la tradizione delle vacanze estive nella Valgrisanche.
Ma perché tutto sto andarivieni da parte del Vaticano in località Les Combes?

A locality
"reserved", a private place ut it is not so excluded from the world,

Petit Haury, Grand Haury, Les Combes. A story which runs off already from the times of
Salassi but which entails the construction of this manor with adjacent tower, where perhaps once existed only a rudimentary fortifications, certainly earlier than the
Planaval Medieval Castle occurred by a Lord of Planaval XIII° Century. In this context and in the meantime in this forteress they occurred all sorts of atrocities, with sacrifices, tortures and executions such as to touch the evil.
Perhaps to "redeem and rehabilitate" the environment from Rome arrived in prayer the Popes ...
La Valgrisenche prende origine dal Borgo di Leverogne o Liverogne (L'Eyvies od appunto Acque "rognose", cioé impetuose) a Sud del corso della Dora Baltea.
Risale vincendo uno spalto sottostante la Torre di Montmay(j)eur o Mont Mayeur, detta anche Torre di Arboé o di Haury ed ancor d'Anry, famosa per le sue raccappriccianti leggende (raccontan che dalla rupe venivano gettati gli odiati nemici od i condannati nell'orrido sottostante). Quindi la valle dapprima s'incunea presso il corso dell'omonima Dora ed indi va progressivamente dischiudendosi in una piana, che inizia ad offrire viste sul Gruppo del Rutor. Come abbiamo già detto, negli ultimi decenni é stata visitata dai due Papi Giovanni Paolo II° e Benedetto XVI°, che han scelto come località per le lor vacanze estive la sede del reso più che famoso Villaggio di Les Combes, ai piedi della Becca del Merlo o di Chamin (2961m). Forse solo una casualità, un piacere personale poi tramutato in tradizione, l'Amore di Papa Wojtyła per le Montagne che da qui si ammirano da Occidente fino ad Oriente. Dal "poderoso" Mont Paramont (3301m) giù insino alla Catena del Rosa in direzione di Roma e del Vaticano. Sorvolando il Monte Bianco e le intere Alpi Pennine con il Gran Combin de Grafeneire (4314m) che svetta al Cielo superando anche le nuvole, mentre il Cervino slancia la sua perfetta silhouette "superba".
Un luogo privatamente "riservato" ma non così escluso dal mondo, tanto che ha visto, nei secoli, passare per il Col du Mont, Salassi, Romani, Armate Francesi, Austriache Spagnole e fors'anche Napoleone. Attraversando l'intera Valgrisenche per approdare alla Valle della Dora, con il Castello e la sua arcigna torre a sbarrare il passaggio dominando la forra dall'alto del promontorio roccioso a fianco dei Villaggi di Petit Haury, Grand Haury, Les Combes. Una storia che prende inizio già dal tempo dei Salassi ma che vede la costruzione di questo maniero con torre attigua, dove forse una volta esisteva soltanto una rudimentale fortificazione, sicuramente precedente a quella del Castello Medioevale di Planaval avvenuta da parte di un Signore di Planaval nel XIII° Secolo. In questo contesto e nel frattempo in questa fortezza si verificavano ogni sorta di atrocità, con sacrifici, supplizi ed esecuzioni tali da sfiorare il diabolico. Forse per "riscattar e risanar" l'ambiente da Roma sono arrivati in preghiera i Papi ...
