Mt Bierstadt
Nice hike to summit before noon on a beautiful cool and clear July day. In order to get a early start, the night before I slept in the back of my Prius a few miles below the trail head at the Clear Lake campground.
Decent hike, lots of people and if you can curl 5 lbs, drink water, add 2 and 2, dress yourself and sing the first line of Happy Birthday you can tag the summit of this mountain made out of a stack of rocks.

West slopes/ridge
Arrived in Denver for a work trip with an afternoon to spare. Rented a car and arrived at Guanella Pass trail head around 4 pm. The weather was good, so I headed up. 2:38 round trip.
Bagged Bierstadt from the Guanella Pass trailhead. Beautiful day without a cloud in the sky. Approximately four hours round trip. The trail was busy but manageable. Great to say I have a fourteener under my belt!

#40 Bierstadt + Evans
I, Jared, have endured the atrocities of the swamp trail or whatever you want to call it on the way back to Guanella Pass from Evans. I almost wish I would've resummited Bierstadt to avoid that. Unavoidable sticky mud under muddy puddles await those that veer off the main route. It was raining and was the first time I felt hypothermia setting in above 32 degrees. Learn from my mistakes, please.

Sloppy
Either in winter with tons of snow, or later in summer with none would be better.
Started around 6AM. Entire lot was filled by 6:30. Easy climb to Bierstadt. Sawtooth ridge had a little snow, but nothing to make the route technical. Evans was a little breezy. Descent was the worst part. Gully was hard to find, BUT there is a route down it. Bushwacking was horrible. Entire area was muddy from melting snow. More than ankle deep all the way back to regular trail. Back at car around 3:15PM.
Left Guanella Pass Campground around 7:30am. The road is closed for winter from the campground to the trailhead (adding about 2 miles each way). The snow was hard packed so no snowshoes necessary - we just bare booted the whole way to the summit. Didn't bring an axe or other traction. Took us 3 hours to ascend - 5.5 hours total. We had to navigate through a storm on the way down and got a little sidetracked. Lucky enough to have clear skies when we summited though!

The Calm Before the StormA great climb before the storm came in and pinned us down on our way to Evans. Worth it!
