Beautiful morning climb. We slept in our car overnight at the Echo Lake Picnic Area. We were on the trail by 4:45 a.m. We only had to use our headlamps down to the road as the sky brightened quickly. We saw only one person in the Chicago Lakes Basin. Summited Spalding then continued on to the crowded summit of Evans. It could have been a lot worse considering it is the day before the 4th. Luckily, we hitchiked down with a nice couple since we didn't feel like going all the way back down when a road connects to the top.

Great hike from Summit Lake. We hit Spalding and then looped up to the summit and back down to the lake. Blue skies mixed with clouds, wind, and snow. Not bad for August.

#41 Bierstadt + Evans
Easy hike from Sawtooth Ridge IF you can find the cairns that mark the trail. Also fun part, I had to wait in one of the bathrooms for an hour to stay warm and dry as I waited for a storm to pass.

Great day on the mountain
Trail run to Mt. Evans from Summit Lake over Spalding and back down. Moved well and did it in 3.5 hours. Awesome views and fun scrambling. I might have a new favorite!

Via Summit Lake
Did this one up from Summit Lake after sleeping in my brother's SUV there. Hail and rain storm the afternoon before. Did Spalding and Warren afterwards. Not sure why but I signed the summitlog for this page in 2002 and somehow my entry got deleted.
Climbed up from Summit Lake, over Spalding and to the summit. Very busy on the mountain today, lots of hikers and full parking lots. Weather was great: sunny, not too windy, not too hot, not too cold. There was a flock of sheep hanging out by Summit Lake. After Evans, I headed over to Gray Wolf. This was my 2nd time on Evans.

From Spalding via Summit Lake. Fun trek/scramble up and around from Spalding over to Evans. Was in a hurry due to schedule and trying to catch my plane back home that afternoon. Ran out of time and had to catch a ride back down from the top of Evans. Not proud of it..

Via the West Ridge
The road was still closed so I had the summit to myself.
Started around 6AM. Entire lot was filled by 6:30. Easy climb to Bierstadt. Sawtooth ridge had a little snow, but nothing to make the route technical. Evans was a little breezy. Descent was the worst part. Gully was hard to find, BUT there is a route down it. Bushwacking was horrible. Entire area was muddy from melting snow. More than ankle deep all the way back to regular trail. Back at car around 3:15PM.

Lousy trail once we got over from Sawtooth due to snow and ice. Not a fan of the summit either.
