2 Days
Our original plan had been to hike from the base of the ski area to summit the day after arriving in Thredbo. The forecast however called for very high winds that day. So we rode the lift the afternoon we arrived and hiked to the summit. The following day, when it was windy up high, we hiked from our hotel to the top of the now closed ski lift. Thus our climb of Kosciuszko was spread over two days!

Quick turnaround
Was in Sydney for a business meeting. Rented a car and drove to Charlotte's Pass on Saturday and slept in the car. Hiked up early next morning in the clouds before anyone else came. No view though. Didn't start clearing until I was already down to Spencer's Creek. Drove back to Sydney for my flight home.
Nice snowshoe
Great looking backcountry skiing, next time!

Great mountain
Good weather at the summit, but clouds were swirling around timberline to the west. Many, many people at the top.
Went back to the area in Feb 2015 for the Main Range Track. Great walk, but again more crowds...

Merry Christmas
Climbed to the top for Christmas only because I was working in the South Pacific and touring Australia for 3 weeks. Cool weather but lots of folks headed up. Used the express lift and then it was 1.5 hours to the summit.

Perfect day
Up the "summit walk" and down the beautiful "main range treck". Except for the summit area we were almost alone. Just wonderful.

Easy walk
Took the lift from Thredbo, hiked from there to the summit. 14.0 km total distance, 550 m elevation gain. An easy day, quick pace due to the elevated trail. Windy and foggy all day, and a couple very small patches of snow visible from the trail, quite late snow season here.
skipped the ski lift to make it into a bit of an exercise, nice hike, though.

Summit from Charlotte's Pass
Hiked up from Charlotte Pass with Alexandra De Castro, very hot, a little windy a times, many bugs. Summit was pretty crowded with most people hiking from Thredbo. 18 km return trip.

Foggy, incredible windy day..many snow fields (unexpected:-) on track from Charlottes Pass. Summit reached approx. at 16:00. Met no people during the whole circle walk, just our Czech and Slovak group of 10. Return via boring old 4WD road (SummitWalk).

In a snow storm
In my mind, Australia defied its reputation in many ways during my short visit. On the bright side, I enjoyed a fine cross country ski tour from Perisher to Rawson's Pass in gusty and whiteout conditions. The track alternated between dry fluffy powder and hard ice. Then it all cleared off for a brilliant calm summit.
I was able to hire snowshoes and ski poles in Thredbo ($30.00) and ride the Crackenback chairlift ($18.00). Dave Lindner from England had never been on snowshoes before (I told him never back up-do a 180 instead). Great hike all the way to the top on the new snow! Skied Thredbo the next day-they opened a week early!

Charlotte's Pass
I hiked the road from Charlotte's Pass under blue skies and perfect weather. It was actually warmer than usual for this time of the year. I ran into a bit of snow near the summit but the track was mostly dry. It took me 4.5 hours R/T, including 30 mins to enjoy the views from the summit, which I had all to myself. It was a very enjoyable hike. The rocky tundra and views of the surrounding peaks are very scenic. (This is my 4th of the 8 7-summits.)
