Via Alum Cave Trail
Via the Alum Cave Trail. Early the high trail was covered in ice, mostly melted out on the way down. Absolutely gorgeous day, but quite cold, with strong winds at Myrtle Point. Needed all the layers I had.

Ascended by the Rainbow Falls trail; crossed over the summit twice on my way to and from Mt. Kephart via the Boulevard (which made for a ~24-mile round trip). Views were minimal both times--if you want to see anything from atop LeConte, or any of the Smokies, summer is not the time.

Mt. LeConte
Overnight hike to the top of Mount LeConte via the Boulevard trail was a success despite stormy weather. We descended down the Alum Cave trail which was great.

Absolutely beautiful hike
In my opinion, this was the perfect time of the year to summit LeConte. Being our first time up the mountain and with not a ton of daylight this time of the year we decided to take the Alum Cave Trail just up and back. At the level of the trailhead there was about a foot of snow on the ground but the trail was nice and packed down and the snow gradually got thicker up to the summit where there was about 2 feet but still a very packed down trail. The best part is although there was lots of snow out it was 65 degrees and completely sunny without a single cloud in the air. The extra 0.2 miles to Myrtle Point is so worth it as it leads to a BEAUTIFUL little rocky peak with 360 views. We spent an entire hour and a half up there. Awesome Mountain!

Unbelievable November Weather
Climbed via the Alum Cave Bluff Trail at the start of a three day trip. Temperatures in the low fifties, sunny and virtually no wind. A little ice up high, but otherwise no obstacles.

My third time up Mount LeConte. It was a beautiful day of warm temps and sunshine. The summit area has to be my favorite spot in all of Tennessee!

Three hours and ten minutes up, two hours and forty five minutes down. For an eastern mountain it was a hard core climb.

An icy hike from Newfound Gap. The summit cairn is actually shorter than it was when I last visited. Had the place all to myself!
