I soloed the DeCaLiBron. I was very pleased that the road had been grated because otherwise, my Prizm wouldn't have made it to Kite Lake. A few inches of snow fell the night before, but it melted very quickly. I though Democrat was the best of the trio.
Summited from Platte gulch with climb of the north face couloirs on
This route was very quiet, and I recommend it for the (somewhat)
technically minded climbers.
2nd attempt in this year...
Very busy - try hiking in the late spring to avoid the crowds.
Hike all 4 at once or you'll have to come back and hike the same trails over again.
Almost always combine this with the other 3, Democrat, Cameron and Bross.
Fun hike of the Lincoln group. No where else can you get 4 14ers so easily!
This summit was by far my favorite of the three (Democrat, Lincoln, Bross). I really enjoyed the section from Cameron to Lincoln to Bross.
Great blue skies and a great mountain. Lots of people around, but hey it was Labor Day!
By far the coolest of the 4 summits in the "circle" - pretty small and airy with a suprisingly gnarly little face off to the south. Definately more of a "top of the world" feeling than on top of the parking lot sized summit of Bross. Cool peak.
My climbing partner Tim and I reached the summit of Mount Lincoln on Saturday, August 9, 2003. This was Tim’s first official 14’er with Cameron being his actual first “unofficial 14’er.” We set out to climb only Lincoln and Bross leaving Democrat off the circle traverse as I had reached its summit earlier this year with a fellow climber.
part of the big 4 in a day fiesta!
Mt. Lincoln looked a little spooky to me from Mt. Cameron, but it was pretty easy to get to on the out and back trail from Cameron. I think it was here that we first noticed all the trucks up on Bross! How crazy is that!!
Well many people talk about how easy these mountain are, but it is still along day. After making the saddle between Democrat and Cameron, it was time to start back up. Followed the easy trail to the top of Cameron. After reaching the east side of Cameron, we found a large snow field and got 200' glissade or so. It was a nice change of pace for the day. Anyway, reached the saddle between Cameron and Lincoln and started towards the summit. Made the summit in about 20 minutes. I was suprised to find that the Lincoln summit has a little exposure. It is for sure the most exciting of the 4 that I would be on that day.
My first 14ers! Awesome circuit across three 14ers. Going from Kite Lake to Mt. Democrat to Mt. Lincoln to Mt. Bross is like rounding a seven-mile baseball diamond backwards. Lincoln would be second base.
Great views from the top of Lincoln. What a place to eat lunch!
cool, pointy summit with terrific views. hiked with friends Dave and Kim who were summitting their first 14ers. we did the 'calibron' (no democrat).
After summiting Democrat we hiked to Cameron and then over to Lincoln. Only took 15 minutes to get from Cameron to Lincoln. Beautiful day.
