As soon as we reached the summit, clouds blew in and we jetted to the bottom. We spent the night off-trail above treeline at around 12,000 ft.
That was a nice trip, minus almost getting struck by lightning. :)
This was my first fourteener and one of my first hikes in Colorado. My first experience with this level of altitude was a trip! It was really quite busy at the summit and there seemed to be a rotating crowd. While I was up there a very large lightning storm blew in suddenly and it became a difficult situation finding a safe spot to go so go early! There were many marmots near the summit which was wonderful also. :)
With N. Massive and Massive Green. With Dad and Derrill.

Gruellingly long day from the fish hatchery. 5-6" of freshies al through treeline. Great bluebird day. Absolutely dead-calm at night on the way down.
The hiking was great, the summit was miserable due to wind.
Up the Southwest Slopes and down the Main Ridge Trail. Great views on Elbert, which I had gone up the day before.
Great day for a climb! We had quite a nice SP group on top for truchas' final 14er!
Congrats to Barry on his 54th. Great day on the mountain.
Made it to the summit in 2:50 from north halfmoon trailhead with great weather conditions. Nice views.
We got to about 13,250 and had to turn back because of weather. We had started at 5:30 and ended up turning around at 8:30 am! Rain, snow, thunder and LOTS of dark clouds made that an easy decision. Also, after my experience on Mt. Lindsey I opted to go back. Bummer especially after driving 5 hours from Philmont.
Only got to spend about a minute enjoying the summit at about 10am, as the weather deteriorated quickly. I've never descended so fast.
I lugged snowshoes all the way up, but amazingly never had to use them. Nice morning. Trip report
east face from summit was a nice line to ski
Just beat a storm
Hiked up Massive from the west slopes some time in the late 90s.
Fun ridge traveling (part of tour de massive), going down the talus slope - not so much.
Great day for a hike. Incredible views. Party of 7 summited in around 5 hours. Round trip was 8 hours.
Very long hike but oversall it was nice hike.
