Route Climbed: North Route  Sucess!

What a great time of year to be on Mt. Nebo. Nice temps and lush greenery everywhere. The hike was wonderful. Fun mountain to climb, but the summit views aren't as astounding as more centrally located peaks in the Wasatch. The views appear to be better in the winter.

Route climbed: north ridge from North Peak  Sucess!

I soloed this one in perfect snow conditions on the first day of the deer hunt. There were three huge bucks on the summit as I approached the last 400 yards. Coming down was great. The 4-6 inches of snow absorbed my footsteps on what otherwise would have been loose shale. Weather was clear and sunny.

North Route  Sucess!

Two months earlier my roommate Gabe and I attempted to go up the north ridge trail, but instead got sidetracked (we followed a cow trail from the paved parking lot instead of driving a bit farther on the dirt road to the north where the trailhead is, and after several hours of bushwhacking were too tired to attempt the summit). I tried finding others to try it again with me, but after 2 months I decided to just do it on my own. I didn't have any snow gear on this solo-hike (a bad idea to be alone in the first place), but everything turned out okay. The views along the north ridge were nice (town of Nephi is 7,500 ft. below), but very different compared to other places in the Wasatch since there are no other mountains of comparable size nearby.

I came back to do the north route again on 9/26/09. See "Last Hike of the Season" trip report for details.

This is the climb that got me addicted to mountaineering. It's a long climb to the South Summit, but a wicked glissade down is well worth the effort.

One of the toughest hikes I've ever done. Endless pounding of the legs. I'll take the North route the next time and save 2,000 feet of pounding. Awesome views - a must do for all local peak baggers.

I know there are a lot of people in Utah who are in awesome shape because of all the outdoor recreation available, but I again have to question their judgment about routes-- how is this a Class 3 route? It's not even 2+ unless you TRY to make it so. Still, good hike with some stunning ridgetop views.

One of the most beautiful climbs of my life summited in crazy weather after a late (10:00am) start summited in 3 hours with very worrisome clouds through out the day. Allot more people out climbing then I was expecting. All and all super fun route.

Climbed with Madjohnbo, Awesome weather, the summit was very windy and cold, but that is what makes it fun!

We climbed to the South Summit and enjoyed the view. Witnessed a man trigger an avalanche. Really amazing.

Route Climbed: North Route - Summit Traverse - Andrews Ridge Date Climbed: July 17, 2005, September 10, 2005  Sucess!

This was a great day. The weather was warm but the wind kept us cool during most of the hike. There was still quite a bit of snow on the ridge but nothing that impeded our progress. The scrambling involved in the traverse of the three summits was very fun. The rock wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Fun climb. Beatiful weather and good snow until about 11am - it is definitely spring snowclimbing season!

While the massif ridgeline was really fun, Cedar Ridge was a pain. It was nice to revisit the site of my cornice accident - it was strangely therapeutic.

Route Climbed: Nebo Loop/ North ridge Date Climbed: September 7, 2003  Sucess!

I had read a description of the northern ridge route from Gerry Roach, so with a map in hand, I made the easy hike up to the northernmost summit of Mt. Nebo. The trail goes through a shaded forest for a bit before skirting the west slopes of North Peak (not Mt. Nebo) on the way to Wolf Pass. At Wolf Pass, it acends a subpeak and skirts to the West a little more. I found some sharp crappy rock near the top where it was better to avoid backtracking on the trail a little instead of trying to grab anything. The register is a very heavy duty steel box that looks like it can resist the inevitable lightning strike. Some spots immediately below the summit on the North side were a little sloppy because of loose rock, but it wasn't much.

This is a butt-kickin' hike! Probably didn't help summiting in the middle of the freakin' summer! Awesome views though and well worth the sweat and burning legs!

Steep trail. Follow knife-edge ridge to summit. Beautiful views the entire way of fall colors. A must do fall hike.

The weather had been nasty until that morning, so the air was very clear and the views were fantastic. Very enjoyable climb, with cool breezes. It was the second of eight consecutive days climbing 5000-foot+ prominence peaks in Utah and Nevada.

Had the mountain all to myself on a fine sept day. Saw a badger on the way up, a first for me. The views were outstanding and the north peak is the highest point in Utah county. Elevation gain counting the ups and the downs of both ways is more like 3600 feet.

Route Climbed: North Route - Andrew's Ridge Date Climbed: July 18th, 2004  Sucess!

Climbed all three summits from the north and descended Andrew's ridge. The weather was cool, there were high winds, and we had to watch out for thunderstorms, which hit us just as we finished the hike.

The trail was nice and easy - fairly well maintained. The rock was loose, but the views were excellent! I've gotta come back and do this in the winter!

Route Climbed: South summit Date Climbed: 8/97

This is a tough day hike. We saw a bald eagle on the south summit and it floated straight up and out of sight. We did not see another soul on the trail all day. Perfect solitude, great friends and a fantastic mountain.
