How...

...difficult of a climb is Mt St Nicholas? Looks a little intimidating. I'll be in NW Montana 7/24-7/30 and am looking for a couple good summits to put under my belt. We're already planning on attempting Great Northern but I'm open to other suggestions.

Re: How...

Ropes are required for this climb. There is some Class 5 clmbing on the lower section of the route. Take a look at the main page and see if you have the necessary skills and equipment to climb this one. I have not climbed it yet. There are a lot of other awesome peaks in the park as well.

Re: How...

Fred Spicker, who does the St. Nick page on SP, is a friend of mine, is an excellent technical climber, is not prone to exaggeration, and says the easiest route up (and down) the mountain entails approximately 1,000' of technical work.

Not an easy climb!
