Fog Death View
Rain cloud shroud from 3 a.m. departure at Trail Camp to summit and back. I imagine the views were neat. Bob Ross painted Sequoia Natl' one time so I'll check that.
Amazing time; ignore the sarcasm.

day hike from whitney portal
Exhausting! Coming down that trail has to be the worst thing I've ever done, not because of the physical effort, but the amount of painful talus and switchbacks.

Yay Whitney!
This was our first venture to high(ish) elevation, and it did kick our butt quite a bit. We did this as an overnighter. Couldn't sleep on summit plateau, that made the summit quite a bit more strenuous. 99 switchbacks had a good deal of show but no ice.

At end of JMT
Beautiful! Surreal sunrise through the cracks in the ridge after trail crest. Otherworldly look to all of the fractured rock. Perfect amount of wind, swirling mist, clear air and warm sun to finish off an amazing John Muir Trail trip.

Whitney trail in a day
Great hike with beautiful views. The hike is easy but very long (which you usually first notice during the descent). We started around 4pm and summited 7 hours later. During the descent we slided down the chute, which was fun and fast.

Mountaineer's Route
Friday 5/2/14 hiked to Upper Boy Scout Lake and camped.
Saturday 5/3/14 started for the summit at 0500 hours.
8 hours up; 6 hours down. Back at camp at 1900 hours.
Sunday 5/4/14 hiked out.
High pressure system in place the whole time. Generally clear; windy at times.
The road was closed by the locked gate just after Lone Pine Campground. It added an extra 2,000 feet of elevation gain as well as 3 more miles. We didn't encounter any snow until around 9,000 feet. We needed snowshoes around Lower Boy Scout Lake. Continued to Upper Boy Scout Lake to camp. Left at 6 am and summites around noon .
A rope and anchor material was nice for the newer members of our group.

Highpoint #12
Pulled the day permit. 22 grueling round trip miles but totally worth it. Sunrise on the eastern face is nothing short of religious.

Dad's day on the mountain
The hike, alpenglow, moon over Mt Muir, summiting Whitney and Muir were great, but were spectacular because I was accompanied by my son, daughter and son-in-law who all sailed up and helped create an embedded memory for us!

East Face
Third time's the charm....snowed out on 2 prior attempts, I went with the East Face in the summer heat this year to knock Whitney off my list. Great climb, Mountaineer's Route down. Camped at Upper Boy Scout Lake for 2 nights to summit Russell as well the following day.
