Amazing view back towards the...

Amazing view back towards the Colorado River from the summit of Castleton Tower. The Rectory is the large rectangular shaped formation on the right (home of the classic Fine Jade route, III 5.11 - on the face closest to Castleton) and The Priest (home of Honeymoon Chimney route, III 5.11- or 5.9 C1) is the large, free-standing tower (even though it seems to be attached to the Rectory in this shot) immediately left of the Rectory. Information provided by Scott Patterson: Parriott Mesa is actually just barely left of the photograph, and you can see the shadow it cast. The correct names of the formations are Convent (far left) and Sister Superior (a closer look at The Convent & Sister Superior). Dome Plateau is in the background and just accross the Colorado River. Book Cliffs are way out on the horizon. For opposite view see Castleton from Priest. Photo taken on December 25, 2004.

Damn fine work!

Gorgeous shot. Great light. Flatters this spectacular area to no end. This is John Wayne country, you know. Many of his movies were filmed here. The most recent Austin Powers film was shot here as well. For scenery, it can't be beat. Outstanding photos.
