It is a great story even if you hadn't summited. I imagine many people would have berated Kancha and gotten all in a lather about the kid possibly costing them the summit. It is commendable that you made the best of the situation without wasting valuable mental energy anguishing about something that couldn't be undone. The way in which Kancha "apologized" for his mistake was quite a gesture! Thanks for posting.

Re: So Very Cool
Yup I've heard stories of people stopping short of the summit and blaming a Sherpa for trying to help them with something such as their oxygen equipment and they end up accidentally turning off the regulator or disconnecting something but the person never checks it themselves. You need to personally check your systems and be responsible for yourself instead of blaming others... especially those Sherpas who work their butts off up there for people. Kancha wouldn't have received any blame from me regardless of if I made the summit or not.
Hi Kurt: Congratulations on your ascent! Pen and I were very interested in your progress (also because of the Chinese restrictions on the mountain) and followed the climb on another web site (don't remember who it was anymore). Anyway, thanks for the TR and welcome back. Alois.
