Fantastic page. Great information. The lack of photos shows how few people have been there! Man, I'd love to visit that area some day...

It is a mountain of intrigue. I first read the story of the tragedy many years ago and am rereading it again now. It is quite a mountain story!

No problem. It's a great page for an amazing mountain. I hope it opens up to westerners soon--it's at the top of my "someday" list.

Great mountain ,great page ...it could be even nicer if the info about 1939 Polish first ascent to Nanda Devi East summit was added

Nanda Devi radioactive?

An interesting article in today's Seattle Post Intelligencer about a spy mission to plant a radioactive surveillance device on the summit. This might be worth linking to in the Overview section.

A possibly interesting link to an ESPN video in there.

Polish first ascent of Nanda Devi East

Great page with lots of exciting stories...

What Tomek once mentioned:
On 2 July 1939 Nanda Devi East was first climbed via south ridge by Jakub Bujak and Janusz Klarner.
The other expedition members, Adam Karpiński and Stefan Bernadzikiewicz, attempted to climb the nearby Tirsuli (7161 m) but died in an avalanche on 18 or 19 July.

cheers,
kamil

Fascinating!

Very much enjoyed reading the article on CIA activities in the 60s amongst the other information here. Wonder what'll happen to that plutonium....!
