Intense  Sucess!

Glowing light and thunder showers over the desert varnished walls, the unique shape and living floor of the canyon, the significant isolation... it's an unforgettable place.

There are some things about the locals that may seem standoffish or strange (I was shocked by the sheer number of impoverished Navajo hitch hikers), but in general I found them to be polite.

White House Ruins  Sucess!

A unique and magical place. I always become aware of my fast-paced life here. A trip here more often would add years on to a lifetime.

beautiful place  Sucess!

I spent a week in the four corners region during a spring break in college. I hiked to the White House ruins. It's a beautiful place, and you shouldn't run into any problems as long as you're respectful and stay where you're allowed to be.

Canyon de Chelly  Sucess!

This is a beautiful area. Hiked to White House Ruins and went to all of the overlooks. Reading other comments, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but everyone we met was nice and polite.

Canyon de Chelly  Sucess!

Kessler, Shaylee, Kim and I left for a hike down into the Canyon de Chelly and to Whitehouse Ruins. Because the land belongs to the Navajos, White House Ruins is the only place in the complex where you are allowed to hike without a guide. We had a great time on the scenic trail and at the ruins.

After the ruins we went to various overlooks of the ruins, canyon and rock towers, but we couldn’t hike or climb anything there.

Down Sliding House, up Bare Rock  Sucess!

I spent a week in the canyon with the greatest Canyon de Chelly Dine guide and a woman beautiful inside and out. We hiked down Sliding House Rock Trail and up Bare Rock Trail. In between we enjoyed meals in our guide's new hogan, relaxed and shared friendship and Dine blessings in her old childhood hogan and simply relaxed, hiked and enjoyed good companionship. I will never, never, never forget my stay in this special place. We bathed in the wash, got caught in dust storms and listened to the coyotes sing under painfully bright stars. I've returned home refreshed and changed.

My father and i spent a week backpacking throughout the canyon. Great sites and history there, a little sad sometimes but overall a wonderful experience.

yo  Sucess!

This is absolutly a beautiful place but yes, a bit wierd that people live here and there are many rules and regulations. Still, accepting those limitations, it's worth a visit!

Not a good place

It is a great shame that this beautiful national wonder is surronded by resentful, hateful people. I do not encourage people to visit this area unless they travel in large groups and stay indoors after dark.

Re: Not a good place

Hey Dan, uhhh... the people living there have been doing so for somewhere around 20,000 years and had a little less resentment before we killed most of them off, kicked them out, raped them and then pushed them back in again.
These "resentful, hateful people" are this way because of our peoples ruthless conquest. A bit of our own medicine maybe...

A magical place!  Sucess!

I spent five days camping & hiking in the Canyon de Chelly. Spider Rock was amazing, as were the other sights in this canyon. We camped on our guide's land; it wonderful spending time with her and hearing her stories.

White House Ruins Trail  Sucess!

We hiked the trail to the White House ruins. The weather threatened, and eventually it did rain on us, but only lightly. And that only served to refresh us for the return hike back out of the canyon. Awesome place; photographer's delight! --mark d.
