Only 10 more minutes to go

We're still going up, and it was reassuring that we only had 10 more minutes to go. The undulating east ridge of the Breitspitze is wide enough that you could get lost in poor visibility. Now, if you want to go to the summit, even a simple compass would be sufficient, for as long as you keep heading rougly west you'll get there, for eventually the ridge drops off sharply shortly past the summit, making it impossible to miss. But on the descent and with foggy conditions, without these signs it would be very easy to make a mistake and take the wrong trail. And if you want to go to Kops but accidentally follow the trail to Partenen, it's a very long detour if you don't realize your mistake soon. We had parked at Kops, and on our return we definitely wouldn't want to descend to Partenen. But as it was a bright, sunny day, visibility was no problem, so there was no risk at all that we would go the wrong way. 26 July 2013.
