Let's plan to meet up at the Kirkwood Lodge after the climb on Saturday night as well! It's a tradition. :D

Both Carson Pass SnoParks can fill up on weekends . Shuttle pickups from Blue Lakes and Iron Mountain SnoParks might make sense. Those locations are on the California SnoPark website's location map .

Any date after February works. Is there a ski/snowshoe preference suggestion for this adventure? I actually do not own either.

Snowshoes ought to be fine. You can rent them at Marmot in Berkeley, and probably your local REI. Looks like there is also a list here.

Snow shoes and skis can be rented at the Kirwood Cross country center just down the road.

So what are the prospective dates again? I might be up for a Crescent Moon ascent/Sister bowl ski descent. :D

You sure you can make it up that big hill? You're not taking the mule route are you?

Yeah! Give this a try right here:

I'm curious to know others' opinions!

I would like to join the trip if timing works out, but plan on doing something low-key.

I would like to do the couloir again. It's such a fun climb! Then dinner with wine at the Kirkwood Lodge (next to the Kirkwood XC Ski depot) Does it get any better than that???

Hey why isn't a destination on the Eastside mentioned? We all know that's where all the action is. :D

How about a climb of a 14'er? Then some sport climbing in the Alabama Hills. Noone wants to drive through the central valley to get to the goods on the west side.

Whilst I agree with Kev-bo about the site of the action, I'd like to see some other parts of the Sierra (actually, started skiing at Kirkwood but had no idea what I was looking at all those years of dropping in up there).

Soooo... I think some crazy girl with a silly hat might make the migration northwest...

Kevin: Stop at Indian Wells on your way up and we'll trade for some Amador Zinfandel... :D

Because it would be harder to get a group together for a 14er, and unless you plan on everybody climbing it in one day and back from the car, you would need a wilderness permit. A one day trip like this will allow more people to go. Plus, everybody is busy in the summer when a 14er might actually be climb-able!

You need a wilderness permit in the winter? We can do a one day trip.

I dunno, if I were meeting folks for the first time I'd want to do something relatively easy and doable in a day. I generally don't really want to do long trips with people I don't know, and I suspect most people feel the same. Round Top is a nice half- or 3/4-day excursion. Tuolumne has a lot of short routes.

If you want to do something in the winter on the east side, maybe a mammoth ski / board get-together ? Being a westsider I generally don't want to drive all the way over there unless there is something frozen and blue involved - it's a lot of gas money to go slogging. If I want a winter adventure, Lassen / Shasta / Sequoia are only 5 hours from my house vs. 9 hours for Bishop or Lone Pine.
