A couple maps I am looking for

by Morlow » Wed Jul 28, 2010 2:44 pm

I am looking for a place to buy hiking topo maps online for the Gros Ventre mountains in Wyoming and the Northern Absarokas (Pilot Peak, Dead Indian Peak, Silvertip Peak area). I am not looking for the USGS maps, although I may get a couple of those later. I am looking for trail maps right now to get an overview of the ranges. I can't seem to find a place online that sells these. I bought all the Beartooth Publishing maps, but they don't seem to make maps for either of these ranges.

www.nationalforeststore.com would be a good bet. They do list maps of the Gros Ventre and Teton Wildernesses. For the North Absarokas, it looks like you might be stuck with the really large scale Forest Service maps, which often aren't great but are definitely better than nothing.

It actually makes me happy that there are still areas out there that don't have dedicated hiking maps a la Trails Illustrated.

Thanks. I guess I may just buy USGS maps if needed for specific hikes.
