My bro is hiking the CDT trail this upcoming summer. He has the 'narrow view' maps but is looking for maps with a wider view (whatever that means). Does anyone have a set of maps he can borrow or buy ???

Many of my friends have hiked the CDT, some I met while hiking the PCT. One acquaintance has a website with a lot of info, as well as his CDT journal. I believe he has map info on there as well, if not you can contact him from his site and I'm sure he can help or point you in the right direction. He goes by Mags.

Another good resource is Yogi's CDT guide. I haven't seen it but I used her guide for the PCT, I don't think it has maps but a wealth of other info.

Yes, Paul Magnati's, "Mags" hiking website has some great CDT planning info and links. I'm well aware of this and have gained much from Mags. And, yes Yogi is a great person and, IMO, she publishes the best all around and in town guides for thru-hiking the AT, PCT, and CDT. However, the last time I checked Yogi didn't have any CDT Guidebooks available. While I'm open to all the planning info I can get I'm mainly interested in the Trails Illustrated National Geographic Maps, especially for the Colorado section of the CDT, and any BLM and Forestry Service maps for any of the other states - New Mexico, Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana.

This probably isn't what you're after, but for planning purposes, you're aware that you can get topo maps for the entire US available online, right?

As an example, i have a site at

that pulls USGS and MyTopo (inproved, relief-shaded version) images, although there are plenty of others out there as well.

Also, if you know what you want, Amazon has a truckload of Trails Illustrated maps.

You can try the Continental Divide Trail Alliance at http://www.cdtrail.org. Another organization is the Continental Divide Trail Society at http://www.cdtsociety.org. Both look like they have a "store" and info about maps. Good luck on your hike.
