I agree, legendary and accomplished alpine climbers should be seen in person prior to accepting their validity in recommending training for climbing.

No Dave,

I want to make sure it is just not a repeat of the first!

I had a chance to meet with and chat with Steve this weekend and bought the book. It is quite an impressive piece of writing. Both from the practical as well as from the scientific side, it is a great resource.

Yeesh, sorry for the sassy comment. I think that was the night a quick happy hour beer somehow turned into 6 or 7. I might have, perhaps, had a stronger belief in the importance of my opinion that I normally would. Not a great excuse but it's the best I got.

Glad you got a chance to chat with Steve. Thanks for the book review Kai. I've been looking forward to getting hold of this book for some time as I've enjoyed his other books immensely.

I have the hard copy "pre-ordered" on Amazon... have no idea what that means, but it may have the same thing on Kindle? --- I'm not much help with anything electronic...

It should be available as an e-Book someplace, I think I saw his announcement (maybe on his Facebook?).

I have it on kindle and so far finding it more user friendly than Twight's Extreme Alpinism because imo it seems a better introduction to the science behind the training.

I've already adapted my strength training as a result of reading it and talking with Steve. I also added treadmill hand walks for core, ouch!!
