CO Recommendation

by sshankle » Sun Aug 29, 2010 2:23 am

Any recommendations for a Colorado Front Range hike / climb that:

- Can be done in a day from Denver, up to ~6-7 hrs car to car
- Can be hiked, but feels a bit like a climb (Class 3 maybe...?)
- Opportunity to stand on top of something

Looking for something to take my wife out on. Thought about James Peak, West Ridge of Atlantic or Grays. South Arapaho maybe? I've been on Greys and S. Arapaho as snow climbs, would prefer something new, but would consider a repeat if highly recommended.

Any good suggestions?

Thanks guys!

N. Ridge on Mt. Neva (same basin as S. Arapahoe) excellent scramble. Get Dave Cooper's "Colorado Scrambles" book for more ideas.

Pettingell Peak E Ridge, the Citadel, and Hagar are all fun class 3s (though I think Hagar is more like a 2+) near loveland pass. I enjoyed Pettingell the most though.

I know you've already been up there, but Kelso Ridge on Torreys is an absolute classic!
