I like your positive attitude, really. And generally agree as well.

On the other hands, if we have a mechanism (I mean something as a 'quality' principle), I'd like to see it working. Or abandon it. So, if an elf by subjectively promoting a page impacts its 'quality' status, are we in favour of that, or would we prefer some automatical featuring/promoting mechanism, like 90%+ or something alike? And don't understand me wrong - Aaron did a great job and in a most honest manner!

Very true.
In my book, regardless of some strange issues, I think the voting system works fine.

Whilst I'm in general agreement with this, there is one aspect of the system that I think needs fixing.

This is the steady erosion of a page's value if it doesn't continually receive votes. I'm sure that this is nothing to do with the quality of the item and has everything to do with the volume of good new stuff on SP that, naturally, people gravitate towards. However, if the value of a page slips - to use Bob's criterion - below 90%, it's very unlikely to be spotted by Aaron as an "oldie-but-a-goldie" deserving of inclusion on the front page. I'm sure many worthy candidates get overlooked because of this.

There's probably nothing that can be done but that's my 2 cents worth anyway.

yup & he can't make everyone happy of course! (hence my suggestion of "randomizing" the whole process...with some built-in criteria).

The Mt. Lemmon page has been completely overhauled. Why not give it some attention after a long exile in suckville. Good work by JUH33.

I think it's a pity that Sarah Simon's page on Sugarloaf Mountain http://www.summitpost.org/mountain/rock ... ain-d.html didn't make the front page this week. It's currently scoring higher than some on there already and is an example to us all of what a good mountain page should look like.

Perhaps next week...........?????

Just pointing out what appears to have been an oversight. This page-- http://www.summitpost.org/canyon/405236/Lytle-Creek-Canyon.html is currently the first featured page but has already been featured. It is even on the list of past featured pages twice.

Sarah Simon's mountain page on Sugarloaf Mountain is outstanding!
What's going on with the front page? I notice a "repeat" of a page from an earlier date. Are we in the "summer reruns" stage of SP???

Weird-- that repeated canyon page is gone, but Sugarloaf Mountain D, which also has already been featured, is at the top. Is there maybe a bug?

Uh, most software engineers I've worked with would say something like: There was an issue with the new code and we had to "roll-back" to last week's code...or something like that.

No bug here really. It's manual work and the featured pages elf had a bad day probably.

Contrary to popular opinion, Elves are people who have exceptionally bad days.

Either that, or there was a large bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon - nearly empty, sitting next to their computer. THIS would turn a bad day into a good day. :D
