Jalovec, Mojstrovka ect: snow gone already ?

by PeterCorneliusSpaeth » Mon May 14, 2007 12:16 pm

A question to the slovenian summit posters: has the snow retreated already enough in order to do (and descend) Jalovec N (Horn route) or Mala Mojstrovka (north pillar) ? Done them 30 yrs ago and would like to be there next weekend (May 19th).
Best regards, Peter

PS: here is the northern alps most rock climbing is already possible
(just some couloirs still have snow).

i just got one information for julian alps:

In high-mountains above
2200m is still something little snow, elsewere you can come across round
ravines, bellow walls especially on northeren sides of mountains.

Here are links of two web cameras.

From Vogel ski center :

From Kredarica bellow Triglav :

Hi,
thanks for the links. Could be it is ok already but I think we will better taking
an ice axe and crampons with us. The final slopes after the north face of Jalovec
will certainly have snow and I remeber the descent also had some nasty steep
slopes high up. Mjostrovka is loer and should only have a little snow on the ledges
of the ferrata. I will report on return.

i also got information for spik from last sunday.
i hope the weather will be fine this weekend...

The conditions are good.
All roads are clean, you can go to Vrsic pass aswell. Koca v Krnici is
open on weekends.
Considering the summit on Spik, there is a few places still covered with
snow, so it is wise to carry elemental winter gear.
The weather was fine, and we didn't met anyone on the way up.
except wild goats....

look for the weatherforecast at Kredarica
www.wunderground.com/global/stations/14008.html
they say there is some chance for some fresh snow on wednesday.

Update: I called a business partner living in Southern Carintia, not too far from Jalovec.
He reported snow last night down to around 1700m, all northern slopes are white.
Since the next days forecast looks better for the Cortina / Tofana region
(and the mountains there are lower as well) we will go there.
Best Regards, Peter.

.. which was a good decision. South faces up
to 2700m can be done already, given the
descend is not on the north side.

Best Regards, Peter
