Mahogony Flat

Why is it named Mahogony Flat?
Shouldn't it be Manzanita Flat?

Just curious.

I believe there's some mountain mahogany in the area. Manzanita is pretty common all over the range, almost overused in naming as much "pine" and "black".

Mountain-mahogany. I'd never heard of that. That actually kills two birds with one stone as it is the plant we were looking at wondering what it was!

Thanks!
