I wish they would be a little more specific: on or off the trail, on or off a standard route, appeared to have fallen or not. At X elevation, or near XYZ, or between A and B. But, as usual, nothing.

It's very sad regardless, of course.

My thoughts too. After seeing the weather the few days after he disappeared, I couldn't imagine this would end well. I have this morbid tendency to examine the modes of failure. The "east slope" makes me wonder if he tried a glissade in the dark, got lost, fell...

I had honestly expected this outcome . My condolences to the family; at least he died doing something he loved.
