While we were bushwhacking through a rhododendron forest in the Smokies this weekend, a backcountry novice said to me, "Now THIS is wilderness!"

Off-trail, on a mountain, in dense bush - - OK, that's a kind of wilderness. I didn't disagree.

But what do y'all think? What makes a place "wild" ?

Although this occurred in Canada, I'm posting it in General because I think there's a lot to learn for anyone who travels in avy terrain. I give a lot of credit to these guys for being willing to give such detailed info. I always learn so much from these.

Many mountains has not only one safe route on a face and some routes may joints each other a share a part of them.
Till now, I create each route separately so I have 2 (or more) routes on the shared section (right). I want to know if I split such Routes at shared section and create a only one route in that part then I'm still able to use routing functions only in 1 ...

It seems that November sucks, everywhere. Prove me wrong. Where in the world is there sweet climbing in November? Alpine, long routes, slogging, don't matter. Except maybe sport climbing. Like, reliable climbing. I know you can make most seasons work most places, but I'm talking about the best conditions. For instance, if someone's making their one big pilgrimage to Yosemite Valley, looking for the best conditions, they'll come in September and early October.
