Here is a shout out and congratulations to Mike, aka thephotohiker for putting out a great guide book on over 60 routes in the Bitterroot Mountains of Western Montana. It is a real testament to Mikes talent as a writer/photographer, as well as a prolific climber in the mountains of his front yard!
Way to go Mike!!!!!

:D The other night my grand daughter and I had a date to watch the crescent moon and the very lovely planet Venus. While getting ready to go out on the deck, I commented that she needed to get a jacket, she gleefully ran off saying "I`ll get my `Gonia"!

I must admit.

I had lost my motivation for climbing for months.

I ended up taking almost a 1/2 year break with occasional forays to J-tree, Castle Rock and Redrocks...yet the lack of excitement or want for climbing was there.

Ended up spending a wonderful season snow-shoeing, a little bit of summiting and alot of disc golf

Two weekends ago we went to Yosemite...yet for some odd reason I just could not find that drive ...

It's almost pure fantasy but the footage is pretty cool. Any idea where this was shot?

I heard someone talking about this, so I looked at the NPS page, and sure enough it is true. Next week there are no fees to get into the National Parks. How about that!

While we were bushwhacking through a rhododendron forest in the Smokies this weekend, a backcountry novice said to me, "Now THIS is wilderness!"

Off-trail, on a mountain, in dense bush - - OK, that's a kind of wilderness. I didn't disagree.

But what do y'all think? What makes a place "wild" ?
