Mt. Cook rating system

I have Palman's Mt. Cook book where he vaguely explains the MC system (ie, 1 is easy, 7 hard). But could someone please offer a little more detail or some translation into the Euro alpine grading system? I'm assuming 1 might equal F, 2 PD, 3, AD, 4 D, 5 TD, 6 ED, 7 ED plus. Is this about right? Any help appreciated. Thanks.

ps -- Anyone wanting to do some D routes on Cook/Aspiring/etc., ...

New Zealand November/December 07

I'm supposed to be there right now but my two intended climbing partners couldn't dodge work commitments.

Plan B required. Anyone interested in going to Mount Earnslaw (45km North of Queenstown) in November/December this year? I might also consider a winter ascent if anyone's keen.

I'm planning the normal route via Kea Basin and Wright Col to the NE face. Not much more than a scramble in summer conditions. (More challenging routes available above Esquilant ...

A nice little potted history of Queensland climbing

Also covers some wider history of Australian climbing. Haven't finished it myself yet but I'm sure others will find it interesting. Amongst other things it seems to solve the mystery of some abandoned gear which is hanging to this day below the overhangs on Beerwah's north face. I'd been wondering how it got there.

New home for Kosciuszko- MAIN RANGE page

Hi all
I have recently made a new page for the Main Range, making it possible to add some information which would be out of place on the Kossie page. I plan to provide more detailed pages on individual mountains in the future when I have more time (and info) so have only introduced them briefly at this stage.

If you have any corrections or suggestions ...

An Australian climber is lost in the Westland National Park on the South Island of New Zealand. There is a helicopter search for him. After two months there is little hope.
